Still Here

This is the propeller right
outside my window on
our first flight. Not cool.
I apologize, I haven't written for a while. Things have been busy the last few weeks. I've been transitioning over to a new role at work, with that has come some travel. We also took a family vacation last week. I feel like I've been in airports more in the last month than I had the 5 years prior. All this stuff going on with planes falling apart and air traffic controllers falling asleep made the whole experience a little more concerning that what it probably needed to be. I don't know if they were being extra cautious, but there were several flights we heard delayed because of mechanical issues. Those sort of things don't inspire confidence.  Another thing that didn't inspire confidence... seeing that our first plane had propellers on the wings.  I didn't think they used these anymore. They must have brought it out of retirement to save some money. It was old, and I was scared. The flight was slow, loud, and vibrate-y. I was so glad when that one was over.

Baby girl was so good
on the plane rides.
I've flown 4 times in the last month. Aside from the first flight, there was some sort of delay or problem on every one. I've meant to share my experiences with those other flights. I just haven't had time. That is the irony of documentation. It is likely that when you are making memories worth documenting you won't have time to sit down and write it. When you are doing nothing, you have plenty of time... just nothing to write about. Anyway, back to the flight issues. We long, grueling, day of traveling back to Arkansas from Indiana. On our last flight they deemed the plane unfit to fly, so we had to wait for them to bring a new plane in. Our old plane was a tiny regional jet. The one they brought it was a much larger and nicer plane. The change of planes was nice, but the flight was delayed so we arriving even later (which had already been bumped because the initial flight we booked got cancelled). We finally landed in Tulsa around midnight. That drive home was not fun.

I had to go into work the next day, which I did (a little bit late). I was telling everyone about my bad experiences flying... blah blah blah. No more than 20 minutes later I found out I was going to be traveling again for work and had to book another flight. What? This traveling business is something I will have to get used to. But I will say it is really great to get to go and meet people out in the field. That definitely cannot be duplicated by sitting in a cubicle.

I can't believe May is almost here. I haven't done any yard work yet and things are looking pretty bad. This weekend would have been a good one to catch up, but it has been raining a ton, and everything is a mess. It is raining right now in fact. I was supposed to play in a golf scramble this morning, but it got cancelled. The weather has been pretty nasty around here this week. All this rain means the weeds are growing, and for some reason the grass is not. Yesterday there was a hand-written note in our mailbox. It turned out to be an awkwardly worded solicitation attempt from a landscaper, but at first I thought it was a neighbor that wanted us to take care of our yard. It does look pretty bad and I hate coming home and seeing that. It definitely will get some attention as soon as the weather clears up.

Anyway, I hope to keep up with this blog as well as I can. I've been seriously slacking on my movie blog too, but I haven't even been watching movies lately.
