This week in "literally"

"Literally" is a simple enough word. However, people on Twitter misuse it, or use it for seemingly no reason. Some of them I really get a kick out of. I'm not trying to make fun of anybody. I just want to share the joy I get from this literal phenomenon.  Let's start out with the definition of the word.

So let's get right to it. This is how the game works... I search on Twitter for the word "literally" and see what people have to say. Then I read and the lol's ensue.

Our first one isn't as funny as it is frightening. I think the word is completely unnecessary in this case. It adds nothing to the meaning... which is blatant. Whether he is already dead to her literally or metaphorically, her intention is clear.

I think Alicia needs to go ahead and finish her summer reading assignments, and next year pay more attention in English class. Who knows, maybe she is in pain. Maybe she needs a different prescription in her glasses... or there are needles stabbing out of the book jacket.

Lele, they are clearly not literally invisible. Stop trying to impress your twitter followers by making them feel like they are in some elite club if they are known by you. I'm sure it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Gareth here needs to get out more. Maybe his mum should take him on vacation... go to the Grand Canyon or something... maybe Niagra Falls.

When I first read this last one I thought for sure it was another misuse, unless there was a street magician hanging out in Jackson. Then I opened the picture, and Mocha_Spice wins the prize for the best legitimate use of the word "literally".
