Quite The Imagination

Things are mostly back to normal around here. Both Amanda and I are feeling better, and went back to work today. Amelia seems fine. She has another few days of meds. She has done well with taking her medicine, but we've had to bribe her with candy. When we tell her it is time to take her medicine she crosses her arms and says, "I don't want my medicine" in her most serious tone of voice. But the promise of a Starburst gets her to cave almost every time.

Amelia has had quite the imagination lately. She got sent to time out this weekend because she was "feeding the birdies" by throwing pistachios on the floor in the living room. Yesterday she was playing in her kitchen and she started answering the phone. I'm so glad I was home sick so I could witness it. All of these conversations happened one right after another in the matter of about one minute...

picks up phone...
"Oh hi, what is your name? Oh, hi Pink. That is beautiful. I am so happy."
... hangs up phone

picks up phone...
"We have to hurry we will be late. We better go home."
... hangs up phone

picks up phone...
"Hmm. What I need to fix breakfast?
Hmm. Honey?
Yumm!
My Bowl!
Okay. Here you go little elephant."
...hangs up phone

picks up phone...
"What your name? Oh...Kipper!
Yes... that's my Mommy.
You want to come our house? Sure!
You want to play farm? *Giggles*
You want play with Divot? Oh yes?
You want play with Birdie?"
...hangs up phone

picks up phone...
"Hello. Very Nice.
See my toys?... and my ball hammer? I lost it!... at Target!
I looked everywhere!
... hangs up phone

Lately everything is a game of pretend. There is an alligator that lives in our fireplace and anytime Amelia hears a noise she will blame it on him.

Today when I got home from work she was very sullen. She moped around for a minute. When I asked her what was wrong she wouldn't say. Then she looked at me... "Daddy. I better go home." She walked to her room and got in her bed (that is her home) and laid her head down. I was actually getting worried. She seemed really upset about something. I sat in bed with her and rubbed her back. A few moments later she sits up, smiles... "Daddy! I am not sad anymore." I'm not sure what her goal was, but she had me fooled. It was definitely all an act. We are going to have to watch out for this one.

Under Quarantine

So far 2013 has treated us well, but everything went off the rails a few days ago. Thursday night Amelia woke up and she was not a happy camper. She was up half the night. She would fall asleep and wake herself up crying a little while later.

I was exhausted all day at work on Friday, and things weren’t any better at home. Amanda was tired and Amelia was a mess. She definitely wasn’t the sweet little girl we are used to. In the afternoon Amelia’s eyes got all red and swollen and she started to get junk building up in the corners of them. Amanda decided to call the doctor.

After i got home from work we headed to the doctor. Amelia didn’t want to go. In the car she kept saying “I don’t need a checkup”. We got there around 6 and waited… and waited. The doc finally saw us and we found out Amelia had her first ever ear infection, as well as conjunctivitis. We got her prescription and headed to walmart to get it filled.

The ear infection explained why Amelia was having so much trouble sleeping. She didn’t get a nap on Friday and by the time we got home from running around she was tired. I was too. I fell asleep on our living room floor about 15 minutes after we got home.

Amelia was once again up half the night. Saturday morning she didn’t want to do anything… but by lunch time she was getting up, walking around and playing a little bit. By the afternoon she had glimpses of her old self. While Amelia was on the upswing, Amanda and I were going in the other direction. Amanda was getting a sore throat on Saturday and I had a headache and felt extremely tired. Mostly because I hadn’t had more than a couple hours of consecutive sleep for the past two nights.

Yesterday both Amanda and I got feeling worse. By the evening it was pretty clear I wouldn’t be going to work today. I had a fever most of the evening and all through the night. Amanda woke up today with a really bad sore throat and body aches. We both went to see the doctor. I have strep throat and he thinks Amanda is getting the flu.

All three of us are sick at the same time. That hasn’t happened before. We are all on prescription medication, and we are all grumpy and tired. It is probably best to steer clear of the Bidwell household right now.
