I've been filling out NCAA brackets since 1992. I've never once correctly picked the champion on my pre-tourney bracket. That all changed this year. For some reason I picked UConn to win it all. I cannot totally justify my choice. I just felt they were really hot at the end of the year, and had a great chance to take it all.
Almost every year that I've filled out a bracket I've also entered some pool for 5 or 10 bucks. I've never won. This year I would have won. The one year I pick the winner I didn't put any money on it. Bummer. It's not like I had such an awesome bracket... I had UConn beating Florida in the final game. I did finish in the 99th percentile of all brackets on yahoo. That is pretty good. And I get nothing for it. Such a shame.
My joy of having picked the winner is greatly overshadowed by how horrible the championship game was. Seriously. One of the least entertaining basketball games I've ever seen. Butler shot 19%. I'm pretty sure that is the lowest shooting percentage ever in the championship game. It isn't like the defense was so great either. It was just bad offense. I almost feel like they were using those oval shaped rims from the carnival games. It isn't cool when the supposed best teams in college basketball finish the game 53-41. I wish I would have put a lot of money on the under (129 points). The under bet on both final 4 games would have won also, but at least those games managed to be exciting.
UConn made a great run at the end of the year. They rattled off a lot of wins when it counted most. However, it is hard to feel that the best team in college basketball took the title this year... even though I had picked them. Too bad I didn't put a few bucks on my bracket. I might have enough cheddar in my pocket to go out to eat at Applebee's.
